Flu Delays Beaird Hearing

Alan Wayne Beaird

The flu has hit the Sequoyah County Court System in Sallisaw.

A hearing for Alan Wayne Beaird, 49, former commander of the local Marine Corps League, has been continued to March 5 after his defense attorney, Donn F. Baker of Tahlequah, reported he had the flu and was unable to continue on Thursday.

The hearing was reset for March 5, with no objection from the district attorney’s office.

Beaird is charged with embezzlement for taking money from the league. He was charged Sept. 27, 2016, for allegedly embezzling a sum “in excess of $1,000 that belonged to the Marine Corps League.”

Now listed as a resident of Rogers, Ark., Beaird is free on a $5,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty to the charge on Oct. 5, 2016.
