The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Swift Water Rescue Team was dispatched to the lower Illinois River, west of Gore, earlier this afternoon. A boat capsized just down from the Tenkiller Lake Powerhouse where water empties from the Tenkiller Dam into the Illinois River. There were three people aboard the boat when it capsized due to the increased water flow being released from the dam. Two of the individuals were able to swim to safety. The third, a female individual, hung onto a tree in the middle of the river surrounded by swift, rising water due to the release of water from the dam. The rescue team was able to reach the female and bring her safely to the shore. No major injuries were sustained.
