Sequoyah County’s unemployment rate dropped again in March,
the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (OESC) reported this week. The OESC
reported the county unemployment rate dropped from 6.4 percent in February to
5.7 percent in March. That is almost a full percentage point from the county’s
unemployment rate in January, when unemployment was at 6.5 percent. One year
ago, in March 2014 the county’s unemployment was at 7.5 percent.
The state unemployment rate for March was reported at 3.9
percent, unchanged from February. The OESC reported Sequoyah County’s
unemployment is the 13th highest in the state. The county has a
total work force of 16,880 with 15,922 working and 958 unemployed.
