'Walk A Mile' Raises Almost $500

“Walk A Mile in Her Shoes,” the international Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence, was held Thursday in Sallisaw and raised nearly $500 for the regional Help-In-Crisis Center.

The sponsors were Carl Albert State College Sallisaw, Dr. Jennifer Scoufos from The Family Clinic and the Health and Wellness Clinic.

Dr. Kathy Harrell, CASC Sallisaw vice president, said numerous organizations and individuals helped with the event and the focus was to raise awareness in the community about sexual violence. Men participating walked the course in high-heel shoes. They men paid an entry fee to participate and also had the opportunity to rent shoes and even hire a ride. The CASC cheerleaders were among the many on hand to help with the event.
