Sallisaw Woman in Guarded Condition after Wreck

A Sallisaw woman was hospitalized after a head-on crash at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported.

Leona Johnson, 67, of Sallisaw was reported in guarded condition at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, the OHP reported. Johnson was driving her 2011 Chevrolet on Wild Horse Mountain Road, south of Sallisaw and west of U.S. Highway 59, when she reportedly crossed into the opposite lane and hit a vehicle driven by Dakota Perkins, 50, also of Sallisaw, head on. Perkins was not injured, according to the OHP.

The Sallisaw Fire Department was called to free Johnson from her vehicle where she was pinned for about 45 minutes. She was then flown to the Fort Smith hospital.
