Sallisaw police have identified and arrested a suspect in the robbery of Cox’s Corner Store in Sallisaw on Oct. 27. An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for the 26-year-old Sallisaw man.
Jonathan Wayne Taylor Jr. was arrested Tuesday after police issued an arrest warrant for him.
In the information filed with the request for the warrant, police officers reported they were dispatched to the store at about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 27, where they learned that a white male entered the store wearing a white T-shirt and red shorts with a white sleeve over his face. The store’s security cameras caught the suspected robber on video.
The suspect told the clerk he was “sorry for doing this but he was homeless and needed the money. The male then demanded the money from the cash register. Once the male had the money he left on foot. The clerk advised that the suspect never showed a weapon.”
The amount of money taken has not been released by investigators.
The report says that officers searched the area for the suspect and found the clothing the suspect was wearing about 50 yards west of the store along the railroad tracks.
According to the report, the police officers then contacted the suspect’s wife, who began to cry and asked, “’What did he do now?’”
Taylor faces a charge of second-degree robbery.
