A 31-year-old Sallisaw woman was charged Wednesday in Sequoyah County District Court with assault and battery on a police officer and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence.
Patsy Ann Collins was arrested at about midnight on Aug. 24, according to the Sallisaw police officer’s report filed with the charges, after she was stopped on Highway 17 for a broken tail light and failure to signal a turn.
The officer reports he smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Collins’ person, and he administered several field sobriety tests, which she failed. The officer consequently placed her under arrest.
The officer and another officer then tried to place Collins in his patrol vehicle, but she refused, according to the report, until she was told why she was under arrest. When the two officers “went hands on” to place Collins in the police vehicle, she kicked the reporting officer twice. He reports she also refused to listen to the officer’s reading of implied consent and refused another test.
Collins was released Aug. 27 on an $8,000 bond.
