Blackbird Pleads Guilty


The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee announced Friday that Donald Lee Blackbird, 59, of Vian entered a guilty plea to attempted sexual abuse of a minor.

The crime is punishable by not more than 15 years imprisonment, up to a $250,000.00 fine, or both.

The indictment alleged that on or about April 3, in Indian Country on an allotment, Blackbird attempted to engage in a sexual act with a person who attained the age of 12 years, but not the age of 16 years and was at least four years younger than defendant, with an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person.

The charges arose from an investigation by the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly E. West accepted the plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristin Harrington represented the United States.
