Burn Ban Continued

A ban on burning was continued until Dec. 18 by Sequoyah County Commissioners on Monday.
Adair and LeFlore Counties have also issued burn bans due to the lack of rain or other precipitation.

In the meantime, area firefighters are scrambling to put out wildfires. Sallisaw and Brushy firefighters extinguished a fire north of Sallisaw and east of County Highway 17 at about noon Monday. Sallisaw Fire Chief Anthony Armstrong said the grass fire escaped from a burning trash fire and scorched an old outbuilding.

According to the commissioners’ burn ban resolution, the burn ban includes no trash or yard waste burning or the burning of any other material that may cause a forest, grass, range, crop or other fire.

Anyone convicted of violating the ban may be fined up to $500 or imprisoned for up to a year, or both.
