Gans School was on a “temporary lockdown,” this afternoon and parents told to come pick up their students if concerned, after a student reported there was a suspicious package in a car parked at the school near the football field.
School Superintendent Larry Calloway said students were kept in secure areas away from the suspected item and students were not considered to be in any danger.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane and deputies were dispatched and are at the school now. Lane said a suspicious item was spotted in a car parked on the school grounds.
Calloway said the package was not a bomb. It was believed to be a military flare.
