A Fort Smith man was charged March 15 in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw, with grand larceny for stealing numerous items worth over $3,100, from a Sequoyah County resident.
A warrant was issued March 15 for Dewayne Odell Weir Jr., 41. Weir is accused of stealing ammunition, fishing poles, a compressor, a pressure washer and various tools, and pawning the items at pawn shops in Fort Smith. The thefts occurred between Feb. 1 and Feb. 24, according to the investigator’s report filed with the charges.
According to the report, investigators staked out the apartment where Weir was said to be living, and then had to chase down Weir who fled from the apartment by climbing out a back window.
Investigators found that Weir was also wanted on a warrant from Van Buren, and they interrogated Weir at the Fort Smith Police Station. According to the report, Weir admitted he took “a lot” of items and pawned them in Fort Smith.
Weir was detained on the Van Buren warrant and a warrant issued for his arrest in Sequoyah County.
