Municipal Races Develop as Candidates File

Candidates for posts in towns in Sequoyah County filed their declaration of candidacy this week with the Sequoyah County Election Board in Sallisaw. The election will be April 7.

The candidates are:

-Gore: Ward 1 (four-year term) Dorothy Rummerfield; Ward 3 (four-year term) Ryan Callison; and Ward 5 (four-year term) Detis Stricker (contested).

-Muldrow: Ward 1 (four-year term) Jeanneane H. King; Ward 3 (four-year term) Carl Mize and B.J. Bramlett; Ward 5 (four-year term) Darren Keith.

-Roland: Ward 1 (four-year term) Aaron Pitt and Jimmy Don Peterson; Ward 3 (four-year term) Cody Click; Ward 5 (four-year term) Monty Lenington Jr.; Clerk/Treasurer (four-year-term) Cindy Wilson Barker.

-Vian: Three at-large seats (all four-year terms) drew four candidates-Monty Davis, Emanuel Drew, E.O. Jr. Smith and Rick Peoples (the three with largest number of votes take office); Town Clerk/Treasurer (four-year term) Verlita Meade.

-Town of Paradise Hills: Trustee (four-year term) Mary Ann Olzawski; Trustee (four-year term) Ron S. Anderson; Trustee (unexpired two-year term) Bob Hathaway.

Those unopposed in their elections will take office immediately.
