The members of the Central Youth Coalition, organized in mid-January, are ready to get busy on behalf of their community.
The students, in grades nine through 12, are, from left to right in front, Madison Mosby, Presley Nicholson, Kayley Stubblefield, Journee Colquitt, Cierra Sizemore and Chyenne Henning. In back from the left are Ethan Dodd, Dayton Lowe, Kamryn McKinney, Dalton Edwards, Kayla Batt, Danielle Bethel, London Smoke, Alayna Holcomb and Kassidy Welsh. Not pictured is Erin Crawford.
Amy Edwards, the coalition’s coordinator, said the Youth Coalition's focus is on being drug and alcohol free and also learning leadership skills by working on behalf of their communities.
“They must agree to be drug and alcohol free,” Edwards said of the members, “and be positive role models.”
The Central Youth Coalition will be participating in Serve the World Day on March 19 by helping with the Roland Community Clean Up.
They will also participate in Walk Like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) on March 26 with the Sallisaw Youth Coalition. Central Youth Coalition members made commercials for the MADD event at KXMX and also commercials against texting and driving. Both will be broadcast on KXMX in the near future.
