The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 24) to introduce the new Sequoyah County office at 102 East Chickasaw Ave. in Sallisaw.
The public is invited to drop in for refreshments and hors d'oeuvres, and meet CASA advocates, board members, and staff.
Jenny Crosby, CASA training and outreach specialist, explained that through their court appointments, CASA volunteers research the backgrounds of the cases, interview all parties and involved service providers, monitor progress towards the case goals and make recommendations to the courts. The single purpose of volunteers is to protect and guide the child through the court system in order to help them find a safe, nurturing and permanent home.
CASA for Children is a non-profit organization. The only prerequisite is that volunteers be 21 years of age. CASA welcomes volunteers from all cultures, professions, ethnic and educational backgrounds. For more information about CASA or to request an application, call 918-686-8199.
