Stilwell Man Hospitalized after I-40 Crash

A Stilwell man was hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash at 4:41 a.m. Friday on Interstate 40. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported Coty Bunch, 27, was transported to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith and was admitted in stable condition with a head injury. The collision occurred at Mile Marker 311, two-tenths of a mile east of Sallisaw.

The OHP reported Bunch was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima west on the inside lane of I-40 when he drifted into the outside lane, striking the left rear of a 2015 Freightliner driven by Larry Kempson, 28, of Covington, Georgia. Bunch's car then went underneath another tractor-trailer, a 2015 Freightliner driven by Curtis Thrash, 45, of Riverdale, Georgia. Kempson and Thrash were not injured in the crash. The impact with the second semi-truck caused the roof of the Nissan to become unattached. The Altima came to a stop in the outside lane. The OHP reported the cause of the crash was alcohol.

The OHP reported the collision closed the west bound lanes for one hour and 11 minutes.
