A group of Sallisaw students was recently selected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and perform the National Anthem at the Oklahoma State Department of Education's Summer Conference, entitled, "EngageOK" in Oklahoma City.
School superintendent Scott Farmer said elementary students Charlie, Emma and Ellie Martin, Sydney and Kennedy Weedon, Mason and Bryce Giljie, and Quaid Girdner were chosen to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and middle school student Rian Briggs sang the "National Anthem." The students are pictured above with Mr. Farmer, Chad Jasna, Eastside School Principal, and Toni Jasna, Liberty School Principal.
The Sallisaw students performed immediately before the keynote address by State School Superintendent Joy Hofmeister on July 9.
In a letter to the students' parents, Farmer said, "We are honored to have our students attend the State Engage Summer Conference and assist with the opening ceremonies. This is certainly a positive reflection on your children, our school system, and our great community."
Farmer said the audience was made up of over 5,500 who had signed up to attend the conference. Firstar and Armstrong Bank donated money for the trip. The conference was held July 7 though 9.
