Roland Man Faces Firearm Charges

Matt Dean Calvert, 26, of Roland was charged August 6 in Sequoyah County District Court with feloniously pointing a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse-assault and battery. Calvert pleaded not guilty to the charges on August 6 and his case was placed on Judge Larry Langley's disposition docket on September 3. Calvert is free on a $10,000 bond. According to the Roland police officer's report, Calvert's wife reported that he, on July 27, became angry with his wife, woke her up, pointed a handgun at her face, and hit her upper teeth with the gun. The victim said Calvert then threw her to the floor and kicked her in the face. When a friend intervened the victim was able to escape. The officer reported the victim appeared to have a broken nose and had a large bruise on her left cheekbone. Calvert was arrested the same day and told the officer he did not remember doing anything, according to the report.
