Douglas Dewayne DeFluiter
A Vian man was arrested Feb. 7 and charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration, according to court records.
Douglas Dewayne DeFluiter, 26, faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 or both if he is convicted. He was released on $10,000 bond and is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 17.
On Feb. 7, a Sequoyah County sheriff’s deputy was asked to perform a sex offender compliance check on DeFluiter at his home. At the residence, DeFluiter’s girlfriend invited the deputy inside. While speaking to her and DeFluiter, a juvenile walked into the room. The girlfriend said the teen was a virtual learner and stayed home with DeFluiter most of the time. The deputy then asked DeFluiter to step outside to speak with him.
Once outside, the deputy asked DeFluiter why he didn’t list the juvenile on his registration with the county, to which DeFluiter said it had slipped his mind. Because he is on the sex offender registry, DeFluiter is not allowed to live with children, so he was detained at that time.
