Muldrow Man Arrested for Assault and Abuse

James Barnes

A Muldrow man was arrested earlier today after a social media post tip.

Muldrow Police Chief George Lawson said James Barnes, 30, was arrested less than 24 hours after he assaulted family members.

“He got into an argument and wound up battering his grandmother and aunt, ages 80 and 75,” Lawson said, adding that the alleged crime occurred in the early morning hours after midnight Wednesday. “Then he fled the house and ran off.”

After the police department posted Barnes’ photo and information that they were searching for him at approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday, they received a call from someone who might have seen Barnes.

Lawson said the officer pulled up in that area and located Barnes, who basically “walked up with his hands out.” Barnes was arrested without incident.

Officers were seeking an arrest warrant, but were able to make the arrest due to probable cause within 72 hours of the crime.

He is charged with aggravated assault and domestic abuse.
