Fatality Crash Caused by Diabetic Shock, OHP Reports

James Conover, 49, of Westville was killed in a collision at 1:06 p.m. Friday one and eight-tenths of a mile north of Westville in Adair County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported Conover was driving a 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck north on U.S. Highway 59 when he apparently fainted from diabetic shock, went left of center, and struck head-on a southbound 1998 Ford van driven by Bill Acklin, 79, of Proctor. Acklin was transported to the VA Hospital in Fayetteville where he was admitted with a leg injury. Conover was pinned for a time before he was freed by Westville Fire and Rescue. He was pronounced deceased at a Siloam Springs hospital. The OHP reported seat belts were in use in both vehicles. By Sally Maxwell, Senior News Director
