The Vian Community Foundation is seeking a few good sons and daughters.
Suzanne Sullivan said the foundation is looking for nominees for the Favorite Son and Favorite Daughter awards, to be presented at the annual Vian Fourth of July Fireworks Show to be held July 3 this year.
The awards and show will be at the Vian Schools St. John Stadium.
Sullivan said the foundation encourages nominators to honor a Vian citizen or former citizen who they believe has served the community. The nomination should be in a letter describing the reasons the citizen should be selected as a Favorite Son or Daughter. The letter should explain the following:
-Why the person holds the esteem and affection of his or her family and friends;
-How this person stands for the things citizens like and believe in as a community;
-How this person gives to the community, and not just money, although that may be part of their character;
-How the lives of others are better because this person has been a part of their lives; and
-How he or she has made a difference for the better.
The letter should be sent to Favorite Son/Daughter Award, VCF, P.O. Box 505, Vian, Okla. 74962, or can be dropped off at Morning Sky Boutique in Vian. The letters must be received by June 21.
Sullivan said the foundation also seeks donations for this year’s fireworks show, and asks individuals and merchants to aid by making a tax-deductible donation. Donation checks should be made out to the Vian Community Foundation. Those wishing to pay cash should see Sherry Pickle or Sullivan to obtain a receipt for records.
