Drug Charges Filed Against Alleged Dealer

A 49-year-old man was charged Monday in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw, with drug charges after an investigation by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department.

James Victor Lawson was charged Monday in district court with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

In the charge, Lawson is listed as a resident of Poteau, but he told officers that he is a resident of a home on Old Highway 59 on Wildhorse Mountain, south of Sallisaw, where the drug raid was conducted on May 15.

Lawson was released on a $21,000 bond on May 15.

According to the officer’s report filed with the charges, the investigation resulted when another suspect told officers that Lawson supplied her with methamphetamines. She told investigators that she purchased at least one ounce of methamphetamines daily from Lawson.

The investigator reported finding in Lawson’s home a black funnel which the female suspect said Lawson used to measure and package methamphetamines. Residue on the funnel tested positive for methamphetamines, and the funnel was confiscated along with two weapons, an AR 15 rifle and a Savage .22 long rifle. The report does not indicate if methamphetamines were confiscated.
