Fire Destroys Residential Facility

A People Inc. residential facility in Sallisaw was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning, Sallisaw Fire Chief Anthony Armstrong confirmed.

Armstrong said one client who lived in the home was transported to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital to be checked out. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, and is under investigation, he said, but is believed to be accidental. Armstrong said firefighters from the Brent and Central Fire Departments were called to assist because the fire was in the attic and firefighters had to work their way through several layers of drywall to reach the blaze. Firefighters were on scene from about 2:20 a.m. Sunday until about 5 a.m.

The home is considered a total loss and damages were estimated to be $125,000.
