DHS to Open in New Building on May 4

The State Department of Human Services (DHS) in Sallisaw will be moving to a new building on May 2 and 3, and will open in the new offices on May 4.

An open house is planned, but no date has yet been set and will be announced later. The new office building is in the Sallisaw industrial park, just north of the Carl Albert State College Sallisaw Campus.

The director said only a minimal staff will be on hand May 2 and 3 and it is suggested that only those with emergencies come to the office on May 2 and 3. If at all possible, clients are asked to wait until May 4 and then come to the new office.

The staff will not be able to make any replacement EBT cards in Sequoyah County on May 2 and 3. But, those who need the cards may go to any neighboring county to get replacement cards.

The new DHS office building is in the old Cellofoam North America plant, which was purchased from the City of Sallisaw and remodeled by Sequoyah Enterprises Inc. The new office building increases the size of the DHS office space from 17,000 square feet to over 27,000 square feet.
