A fire at Snake Creek Wilderness Condominiums shortly after 7 p.m. Monday destroyed at least one residence, firefighters reported.
The fire was reported first to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office which then contacted Sequoyah County 9-1-1. The Blackgum Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 7:22 p.m. Blackgum firefighters were assisted by firefighters from the Chicken Creek Volunteer Fire Department in Cherokee County.
The residence was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. An ambulance was also at the scene on standby in case of injuries but none were reported.
The condominiums are right over the Sequoyah County county line in Cherokee County, U.S. Corps of Engineers personnel said.
