A new 2016 four-wheel drive grass unit was recently purchased by the Sallisaw Fire Department, with funds from the Sequoyah County Fire Fighters sales tax, said Sallisaw Fire Chief Anthony Armstrong (above).
Voters approved the 0.25 percent sales tax for fire departments in 2006.
Armstrong said the grass unit cost $69,000 and replaces the fire department’s 1986 model which was wearing out. The grass unit was built to order by Chief Fire and Safety Co. of Chickasha.
Armstrong said the truck hauls a 300-gallon water tank, with multiple hand lines and a water pump.
