I-40 Crash Kills Florida Man

A Sarasota, Fla., man was killed Sunday night after his vehicle struck a tree on Interstate 40 West.

Thomas West, 51, was driving a 2019 U-Haul box truck at mile marker 330, half a mile west of the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line in Sequoyah County, when the vehicle left the roadway, traveled about 300 feet and struck a tree.

According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, West was pronounced dead at Baptist Health Center in Van Buren from injuries he suffered in the crash.

OHP said the driver suffered a medical event, which led to the crash.

The roads were clear at the time of the crash and West was wearing his seat belt.
