At 7:16 pm Saturday evening 911 received a call of a structure fire north of Sallisaw, just west of Highway 17 and East 1000 Road. When the Marble City Fire Department arrived on the scene the house was fully engulfed. It was learned that there was possibly a male subject still inside the residence. After the fire was extinguished fire officials located a deceased body inside the residence. The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department along with the Oklahoma State Fire Marshals Office and the State Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene.
During interviews with witnesses it was learned that a female had been inside the residence during the fire and had escaped about the same time a male subject arrived in a vehicle. The male subject saw the house was on fire and ran around to a side door to make entry because he thought his wife was still inside but the female had escaped out a different door. After the male subject entered the structure, the roof fell in. All agencies are working the case as a crime scene until an autopsy is completed which will show the cause of death. At this time there are no indications of any foul play. The name of the deceased has not been released at this time.
