The Aviagen Sallisaw Hatchery, above, in Sallisaw's industrial park, is undergoing an approximate 50 percent expansion, which will add numerous staff positions. The expansion began in October and is expected to be complete by September, Marla Robinson, Aviagen North American marketing manager in Huntsville, Alabama said. She said the hatchery, which opened in 1993, has a current maximum capacity of 33,546,240 annual eggs set per year. "After this multi-million dollar expansion project, the Sallisaw hatchery will have an annual egg set capacity of 50,319,360," Robinson said. "This is an increase of 16,773,120 eggs set per year or approximately 50 percent expansion to current capacity." Robinson explained the Aviagen Sallisaw hatchery ships primarily parent stock domestically and internationally, mostly to Latin America and Asian with flights departing from Dallas or Houston, Texas, and occasionally hatches and ships grandparent stock as well. The hatchery hatches and ships stock for all three commercial Aviagen brands including Arbor Acres, Indian River and Ross. The hatchery currently has 71 full-time employees.
