A Muldrow man has been cited for illegally dumping 24 cow heads and three calf carcasses in a dumpster at Kerr Lock and Dam south of Sallisaw, according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart. Lockhart stated that the man told deputies he removed the cow heads for meat from the cows' cheeks and one cow was taken to a processing plant is Stigler. The identity of the man has not been released. Lockhart said, "During the investigation we tracked tag numbers on the ears of the cows to a ranch in Chelsea, Oklahoma. After locating the male, he admitted to dumping the heads and was cited for illegal dumping." Lockhart said the case will be submitted to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture for possible additional charges. In addition, papers will be filed seeking reimbursement for costs related to disposing of the cattle parts properly, Lockhart said. The man could face up to $5,000 in fines. The remains were discovered by two fishermen.
