Vian's 40th Annual Parade of Lights will kick off the Christmas Parade season this year tonight at 6 p.m. Hometown Christmas is the theme of this year's parade sponsored by the Vian Lions Club. Kids can visit with Santa after the parade in the gazebo at Anna Belle Farmer Park.
Although the weather has everyone on alert wondering if Sequoyah County might receive rain, sleet or even snow Saturday the local Christmas parades are currently all scheduled to roll ahead as planned.
Following is a list of local parades planned to wow the kids and carry Santa through the county this Saturday.
Gore: Christmas Through the Ages is the theme of the annual Gore Christmas Parade which will begin at 11 a.m.
Roland: The annual Roland Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Roland Chamber of Commerce, has the theme Small Town Country Christmas. Lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the parade starts at noon. Lineup will be on a first come, first served basis with pre-registered contestants being given preference. The check station will be located at the Roland High School parking lot. Contestants must be checked in to be considered for the cash prize. Prizes will be awarded in 1st-3rd place in Non-Profit Class, Antique Car Class, and Open Class.
Marble City: Marble City Christmas Parade will begin at 2 p.m. with line up starting at 1 p.m. north of Town. The parade will feature the award winning Sequoyah High School marching band and the Mr and Miss Marble City 2019 Royalty. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be handed out at the historic Citizens State Bank and there will be lots of free candy for the kiddos! Santa will also be present for the event.
Muldrow: The Muldrow Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Muldrow Lions Club, will begin at 5 p.m. at the east end of town and will proceed to the Muldrow City Park entrance.
Sallisaw: The Sallisaw Christmas Parade lineup starts at 5:30 p.m. on Choctaw and the parade begins at 6 p.m. on Cherokee. Make a Joyful Noise! is the theme of this year's parade, sponsored by the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three parade entries in each category. Santa will be sure to make a grand entrance into town as he does each year! Elim Full Gospel and Blue Ribbon Fellowship Church will be giving out hot chocolate and cookies at The Shed during the parade.
Although the parades are all scheduled to proceed as planned some organizers did state that if the weather is severe at the scheduled time a determination to cancel or reschedule could be made then.
