Teen Dies in ATV Accident


A 16-year-old San Antonio boy died Friday, July 5, after losing control of the all terrain-vehicle he was driving. The accident occurred at approximately 8:42 p.m.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report, the boy was driving a 2011 Polaris Ranger Side by Side on E1090 Road east of 4680 Road, approximately four miles east of Sallisaw in the Hansen area. The boy was reportedly pulling out of a driveway on E1090 Road when he lost control of the vehicle and rolled 1/4 times causing him to be ejected and the ATV to land on the boy.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Pafford EMS due to a head injury. 

The condition of the driver was listed as normal. The ATV was equipped with seatbelts but they were not in use, according to the OHP report.

  1. The condition of the driver was listed as normal? What does that mean? Wasn't the boy driving and isn't he deceased?
