Commissioners Approve Architect’s Assistance with Health Department Renovation

The Board of Sequoyah County Commissioners unanimously approved having an architect draw up plans for the renovation of the Health Department.

The renovations are necessary to bring the agency up to building code, officials said, including making the department handicap-accessible with ramps and more. The updates will also double the size of the department’s file room and enlarge the lobby.

Commissioners also approved the yearly contract for medical staffing and administration at the Sequoyah County Jail for the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s office. The contract must be renewed annually, an official said.

Updated disaster recovery plans for Sequoyah County districts 1-3 were also unanimously passed.

Commissioners approved the 2020 Safe Oklahoma grant application for the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s office. Officials said the grant must be renewed annually and that this year the office requested $67,000 in grant money, more than last year’s grant. The funds would pay overtime for deputies who volunteer for an extra five-hour shift.
