Western Sizzlin to Close Doors April 30

After almost 35 years Western Sizzlin of Sallisaw will be serving its last steak on April 30.  A popular location for meetings, after church lunches and buffet binging Western Sizzlin and its employees have seen generations of community members and families come through its doors.

Gina Coppock, longtime employee and manager of the restaurant couldn't contain her tears while talking about her memories of the years spent taking care of customers. Coppock began working at Western Sizzlin in April 1984 shortly after the restaurant was opened by original owners Rick and Cathy Jobe.

"I appreciate all of the customers I've met over the years. I'm going to miss them," Coppock said through her tears. "This has been a great business." After 34 years of employment at Western Sizzlin Coppock stated she wasn't sure yet what she would be doing next.

The Western Sizzlin building has been sold to the current owners of Chen's Garden located on Kerr Blvd. just south of Interstate 40.

The Chen family intends to move their current buffet style restaurant to the Western Sizzlin location. "Plans are to remodel and hopefully reopen in later summer," stated one family member.
