At a special meeting of the Sallisaw City Council held on Thursday evening citizens interested in being appointed to the position of Sallisaw mayor were allowed to speak to the council and express their interest.
Three individuals expressed their desire for the appointment including Jim Hudgens, current city commissioner, Robert Morris, and Ron Lockhart, former Sequoyah County Sheriff. Each gave some personal facts and stated why they believed they would make a good mayor for Sallisaw.
City Commissioner Julian Mendiola expressed his desire to postpone the appointment allowing for more time to consider the decision. The council agreed to schedule a special meeting on April 24 at 6 p.m. It is expected that an appointment for mayor will be made at that time.
