Keota Couple Hurt in Crash


A man and woman from Keota were injured in a one-vehicle crash at about 2:35 p.m. Sunday.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported Verna Arterburn, 71, was driving a 2011 Ford pickup truck west on State Highway 9 when she ran off the highway to the right and struck a culvert. The truck rolled one complete time and came to rest on its wheels.

The OHP reported Verna Arterburn was transported by LeFlore County EMS to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith where she was treated and released with an arm injury. 

Edmond Arterburn, age 81, from Keota was a passenger in the truck. He was transported by LeFlore County EMS to Sparks Regional Medical Center then transferred to Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville. He was admitted and listed in stable condition with a trunk internal injury.

The crash occurred about three miles south and one mile east of Cowlington in LeFlore County.
