Construction of Sallisaw’s new 30-foot by 100-foot animal shelter began Thursday, above, and the metal building is expected to be completed within two weeks, Thad Harris of Harris Construction, said Monday.
Harris said the materials for the building were purchased from Sallisaw Lumber.
The Sallisaw City Commission, after much debate over the cost of the new shelter and its location, approved building the metal building at their January meeting. The metal building will cost $21,900 and city employees will complete the facility, for a total cost of $60,000.
The new shelter is going up on the site of the old animal shelter, which was determined to be in such bad shape it was not worth renovating.
