Stilwell Man Held on $10,000 Bond for Drugs

A 19-year-old Stilwell man was charged Sept. 5 in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw, with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence.

Briar Eugene Pettit pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his next court appearance is Sept. 19 on Associate District Judge Kyle Waters felony disposition docket.

According to the sheriff’s deputy who arrested Pettit, the deputy was conducting a safety check Sept. 1 at the corner of Highway 17 and Cherokee in Sallisaw when he stopped Pettit who was driving a Ford Ranger with two passengers.

In his report filed with the charges, the deputy said he noted all three appeared to be under the influence and they all confessed to being under the influence.

The deputy had all three step out of the vehicle while he searched. The deputy reported finding marijuana, THC, and a smoking device in the pickup truck.

Pettit’s bond was set at $10,000. He was also approved for an Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) attorney.
