Vian School Bonds Fail

Vian voters on Tuesday turned down two Vian School propositions that would have, if approved, provided funds to purchase new school buses and other vehicles for the school.

The two bonds totaled $650,000 and required a 60 percent yes vote to move forward.

The vote was, for Proposition One, 144 yes votes (58.06 percent) to 104 no votes (41.94 percent); and for Proposition Two, 148 yes votes (58.27 percent) to 106 no votes (41.73 percent).

“It was close,” said Vian School Superintendent Victor Salcedo Wednesday. “We appreciate everyone who voted. We are just going to try to maintain and keep it safe for our students.”

Salcedo said the school officials and board have not yet decided if another vote for bus and transportation funding will be tried.

“We are still evaluating,” he said. “It’s too early yet to decide.”
