Roland Police Investigate Shooting

Roland police are investigating a shooting, which injured a teenage girl, shortly before midnight Monday.

The shooting was at a Roland apartment complex, Police Chief Tommy Sessums said.

“We’re still trying to get to the bottom of this,” Sessums said Tuesday morning.

Sessums did not release the names of the victim or another teen taken into custody because of their ages. The teenage suspect will be detained during the investigation. Sessums explained teens in custody are eventually turned over to the custody of the Juvenile Services Unit, which determines where the juvenile will be housed as the investigation or other legal proceedings continue.

The injured girl was taken to a Fort Smith hospital and was scheduled to undergo surgery, Sessums said.

Roland police were taking statements Tuesday morning about the shooting.
