Teen in Critical Condition After Lake Tenkiller Tubing Accident


A Tahlequah teen was life-flighted after a Labor Day accident on Lake Tenkiller.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:32 p.m. at Blackgum Landing, 8 miles north of Vian.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), William Leyva, 40, of Gulfport, Mississippi was pulling three Tahlequah teens in a tube with a 2016 SeaDoo when the tube went outside of the wake of the vessel and was struck by a 2005 Yamaha Wave Runner driven by Robert Raine, 62, of Vian.

Two of the teens were age 13 and one was age 16. All were male. Their names have not been released.

One 13-year-old was transported by Air Evac to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was admitted in critical condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

Leyva and Raine were uninjured in the accident

Personal flotation devices were being worn by both vessel operators and the three teems.

OHP was assisted by the Blackgum Fire Department, Pafford EMS an Air Evac.
