Vian to ‘Burn Down Main St.’ on Oct. 5

Vian’s 2nd annual Burnin’ Down Main St. event has been scheduled for Oct. 5.

The burnout and cruise night is sponsored by Vian businesses B&B Auto and Vian Wheel & Tire, along with the city’s police and fire departments and the Vian Lions Club.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Vian Middle School cheerleaders, who will be participating in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Co-event organizers Sammy Bolin of B&B Auto and Jay Jordan with Vian Wheel & Tire said the event will begin with registration at 11 a.m. Car show awards will be presented at 3 p.m. and the burnout will start at 5 p.m., followed by cruise night at dusk.

Bolin and Jordan said trophies and cash prizes will be awarded for the following:

Council’s Choice, People’s Choice, Best Truck, Best Unfinished, Best in Show (for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places) and Best UTV (for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Trucks and ATVs are also welcome to join in the fun.

Car show entry is a $15 donation per vehicle. Burnout participants will be able to enter the contest for a $10 donation.

About 25 people participated last year, Jordan said, and about 300 attended the event. “We are hoping this year will be bigger,” he said.

The event will also include bounce houses for the young ones, a dunk tank and vendors. Food will be provided by Sweet Nana’s Donuts and Where There’s Smoke There’s BBQ.

Donations are more than welcome and may be made by calling Denise at (918) 773-8400. To become an event sponsor, contact Denise as well. Event sponsors will have their names listed on the back of event T-shirts.
