Crash Victims’ Names Released

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) has released the names of those involved in a crash on U.S. Highway 59, in LeFlore County, on Oct. 24.

The fatality collision occurred at about 12:46 a.m. on U.S. Highway 59, about one and a half miles west of Spiro.

Tyrell Matheny, 24, of Poteau was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driving east when he went left of center and struck head on a 2014 GMC Sierra driven by Bethany Snell, 26, of Spiro.

Matheny’s vehicle blocked the highway and caught fire. He was declared deceased at the scene.

Snell’s vehicle ran off the road to the right, ran through a ditch, and came to a stop, pinning the driver. She was transported by Tulsa Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, and was admitted in stable condition with leg, arm, and trunk internal injuries.

The OHP reported the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
