County Fair Will Be Held Sept. 5-7


The Sequoyah County Fair will be Sept. 5-7 at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds.

The open class division is open to Sequoyah County residents of all ages.

Check-in time for indoor exhibits is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, for non-perishable items. Check-in for perishable items will be from 8-9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6. Judging for indoor exhibits will be at 10 a.m. that day and they will be open for public viewing from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7.

All exhibits must be picked up by noon Saturday.

Indoor exhibition classes feature a bit of everything. The list includes canned goods, such as fruits and vegetables, pickles and relishes and jams, while the baking division will feature scratch-made breads, cakes and more.

There are also horticulture exhibit classes featuring everything from apples to zucchini. The sewing and needlework category is for all craft media, including clothing, crocheting, knitting and more. The creative stitchery category is for embroidery, needlepoint, needle-punch, plastic canvas and counted cross-stitch.

Other entry categories include everything from floral arrangements for fresh flowers to driftwood art and silk flowers. The Arts and Crafts division welcomes entries for nearly every craft, from holiday decorative items to handmade greeting cards.

Check-in for the livestock show begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with judging for rabbits and poultry beginning at 10 a.m. Market lambs and ewes, market hogs and gilts, heifers, steers and goats will follow.

Check-in for the horse show will be immediately following the kiddo show. The horse show will include halter classes for mares and geldings and a showmanship class.

There will be plenty of fun for kids as well, with stick horse races and other fun events.
