Youth Coalitions Celebrate Graduation

The Central and Sallisaw Youth Coalitions recently celebrated their annual Graduation Celebration. Students from both coalitions played games for the chance to win prizes donated by businesses and members of the community. Each senior attending went home with a large prize.

The Sallisaw NOW Coaliton staff, Amy Edwards and Taylor Chadwell stated that they wanted to thank everyone in the community that donated to make the Graduation Celebration a success.

"We couldn't have done it without Todd Martin at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Sallisaw Lumber, Darren and Kim Girdner with KXMX, Wal-Mart, Health & Wellness Center, Firstar Bank, Simple Simons, Mazzios, Pizza Hut, Clif's Pharmacy, Aroma's, and the TSET Program at People Inc.", stated Edwards.

"We were able to give out over $1,000 in prizes to our seniors," Edwards added.

The youth coalitions are made up of 9th-12th grade students from Central and Sallisaw that sign an agreement upon becoming a member to remain drug and alcohol free. The students then perform various forms of community service throughout Sequoyah County and give back to their community.

Steven Spyres with Vian Landmark Missionary Baptist Church was the guest speaker for the event.
