The
Brent Rural Fire Department will present a National Wildfire Preparedness Day
and Public Safety Fair from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 2 at the Brent Fire Station,
south of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59. All the events are free and hot dogs and
drinks will be provided. Fire department members said those attending will learn
how to create a defensible space around their homes to protect families and
homes from wildfires. Events include fire extinguisher training by Indian
Capital Technologies, free educational material on home and wildfire safety,
customized wildfire protection and home assessment planning, a fire equipment
display and more. Children may visit the Children’s Fire Safety House provided
by Farm Bureau of Oklahoma, and may visit with Smokey Bear. For more
